About Our Production Team in Spain and Portugal

What’s in a name?  Renowned caminos, or paths, have shown travellers the way for centuries.  Pilgrims in Europe have long followed the Milky Way along the Camino de Santiago to pay homage to the tomb of Saint James in northwest Spain.  Spaniards settling North America used the Camino Real to sustain their presence in the west for centuries.

Those enterprises have required vision.   Focus on a vision for storytelling is fundamental to Camino Media's success at weaving words with images that transcend borders and cultures.  American producer-director Michael Moffett leads a production management team providing sure footing for your story in the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking world of south-western Europe or further afield.

Founded and managed by bilingual natives from both sides of the Atlantic, Camino Media is the video production company uniquely capable of guiding clientele through the cultural and language challenges inherent to international media productions in Spain and Portugal.  A friendly, local partner with vision for storytelling.

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER & DIRECTOR
Michael MoffettMichael Moffett
is Managing Partner and visionary at Camino Media.   As a veteran TV journalist and filmmaker, Michael provides two decades' experience producing, writing and directing factual television programming for National Geographic Channel, Discovery Channel, PBS, TVE, Euronews and other broadcasters, in addition to production management for ABC Television reality programming.  The accumulated knowledge serves as a foundation for the crew and supplier network that now serves Camino Media production service clients.  Michael learned firsthand the value of proven, local production service partners during work for production companies, corporate and institutional clients in factual and commercial productions spanning five continents.  It is that experience at the helm of Camino Media that provides sure footing for script-to-screen and production service clients.

While shooting abroad continues to deliver memorable moments of swimming with sea lions, snacking on frankincense, witnessing live crucifixions or dancing on the tables of Beirut nightclubs, this Los Angeles native, and wine lover, is happily settled into the land of Spanish explorers who first sought the “island paradise” that is his native California.

PM & LINE PRODUCER
Luis MontalvoLuis Montalvo has spent the better part of 25 years contributing toward the success of commercial and fashion productions in most all media. The world of images made its first impression on him at the age of 17 when Luis smuggled his first camera out of Andorra – a Pentax K1000 he still owns. Work in the industry began in the New York mailroom of agency Ally & Gargano while Luis studied for a TV Production diploma at the Center for the Media Arts in the 80’s. Luis returned to Spain only to start five years traveling around the world with photographer Alejandro Cabrera and collaborating with designers and advertisers like Loewe, Burberry’s, Zara and Alfred Dunhill. A leap into commercial films at a leading Spanish production company gave him the chance to learn professional filmmaking from all angles and build upon organizational skills that would serve him well as he shifted to production service with companies that would include his own for a long list of clients such as Audi, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Lexus, Land Rover, Yamaha, Suzuki, P&G, Kellogg's, Samsung, Siemens, Telecom Italia Mobile, Microsoft and more.

Luis is a proud father. While waiting for the day that he can once again buy a motorcycle, he spends part of his free time on the web socially promoting a local jazz club and thinking about a better world for all.

LINE PRODUCER
Adriana FrancoAdriana Franco knows firsthand the management and creative needs of audiovisual production. She has directed short films earning awards at national and international festivals and has worked as Project Manager on productions for clients such as Carrefour, Atlético de Madrid, BNP Paribas Bank and more. Her beginnings in advertising sparked a passion for the audiovisual industry. Work as assistant director for advertising agencies and independent producers impressed upon her an appreciation for short and succinct final cuts. Adriana has also managed the production of festivals and visual material for the Bilbao City Hall, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Córdoba and Jerez. Work at Warner Bros. Spain in the local production and theatrical departments further enriched her knowledge base.

Constant travel since childhood aroused in her a curiosity about the world that never sleeps. Adriana is loving and respectful of nature, and, while she sometimes misses her days of scuba diving in the Caribbean, she makes up for it diving into the treasures of Madrid.

COORDINATOR
Nelson BatistaNelson Batista fronts the technical and logistical needs of Camino Media shoots in Portugal.  Two decades' experience recording sound in Portugal and beyond started with studies for a major in Music Production and Engineering at Boston’s famed Berklee College of Music.  The evolving film and TV medium captivated the young guitarist who honed his skills at the height of analog recording technology and infancy of digital audio, becoming witness to the beta-testing of Pro Tools.  A professional equally at ease recording in studio or on location, Nelson has worked in Portugal on top-rated and award-winning TV game shows, weekly series, sitcoms, soap operas, documentaries, live TV broadcasts, and institutional and commercial work. He has toured with Luis Represas, worked on political campaigns in Cape Verde, and recorded and mixed popular Portuguese artists. This versatility has equipped Nelson to cover production needs in all genres for Camino Media clients like Google, Toyota, Rotary Club, Medscape, and ITV.

A dedicated father of two, Nelson can often be found at Benfica's Estádio da Luz either watching his oldest son practice or attending a pro football match with him. Nelson returned from the US to his family’s home country of Portugal at the same age his mother left and is fond of recharging his batteries in the Beira Alta wine and cheese making region in his father’s home town.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
Juan Manuel "JuanMa" EscuderoJuan Manuel “JuanMa” Escudero is our “go-to” man for the tools of the trade.  A shared sense of adventure and the outdoors first drew him to work with Michael as DoP for National Geographic Channel programming covering dozens of natural history and cultural heritage themes.  His technical knowledge of how to get the most out of video production equipment plus a cool head under pressure has since proved invaluable to Camino Media in work on Pepsi-sponsored programming for a global audience featuring David Beckham and commercial productions for Red Bull.  During nearly two decades of independent audiovisual production work, JuanMa has designed, shot and directed live and taped multi-camera programming for broadcasters as well as events for public and private sector clients like Clarins, Carrefour and Nestlé.   He has also built up a talented team shooting on a full range of hight-definition cameras, including in-house 5D Mark II cameras aligned to shoot 3D and posting in Final Cut Studio HD and Avid DS Nitris edit suites.  JuanMa currently splits his time managing the Madrid home of Camino Media’s turnkey productions and directing productions spanning all genres.

JuanMa and many of our technical team are self-confessed Star Wars freaks who inhabit the planet Endor.  Fortunately, he is equally adept in the deep blue of planet Earth.   JuanMa’s amphibious nature has racked him up several underwater shooting credits as well as the eternal gratitude of at least one director he helped out of treacherous currents.

MANAGING PARTNER & FIXER
Cristina Mateo-YanguasCristina Mateo-Yanguas is Managing Partner and where the buck stops at Camino Media.  Initiating her work experience in Washington, DC, fitted Cristina with the valuable skills she later put to use in management for multinational corporations back home in Spain.  A diversion into researching, fixing and translating for documentary and journalism projects with media like Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Fox, CBC Television, CBC radio and Discovery Channel soon evolved into a full-time project as Camino Media took shape.  Cristina has worked for Boston Globe, Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Sveriges Radio and Global Post, among others.  She presently manages most collaborations with veteran foreign correspondents who come in from international news media to report on Spain.  The research between stories is ongoing and an endless source of material for Camino Media’s own factual productions, but for a change of pace she also finds time to manage the nuts and bolts of Camino Media’s books and website content.

Madrid is home, but the northern Spanish city of Pamplona – frequented by pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago – holds an enduring draw for Cristina.  Running the bulls is just one of the unforgettable experiences she had whiling away youthful summers in the surrounding villages of Navarre where her parents were raised.

Camino Media, SL, is a member of the Federation of Spanish Audiovisual Producer Associations (FAPAE) and Madrid Audiovisual Association (AMA).  Management staff are members of the Spanish Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers (SGAE), the Spanish Press Association (FAPE/APM) and the Spanish Geographic Society (SGE).
